Senior Therapist, Coach and Co-Owner

Tri-Swim-matthias.jpg Matthias is a Personal Coach, Post-Rehab Specialist and Medical Exercise Specialist (MES) who has been guiding clients to full rehabilitation and wellness since 1992. He began his career in his native Germany, where he earned a PhD in Sport Science and Master's Degrees in Physical Education, Kinesiology and Biology. After completing his studies, Matthias taught classes and seminars in swimming, strength training, immunology and anatomy at the German Sport University, Cologne. He also worked in fitness clubs, spas, and for several rehabilitation and therapy centres. And he received certification in both Exercise Physiology and Medical Exercise Therapy (MET) by DVGS (Deutscher Verein fuer Gesundheitssport) and ZAT.

Drawing on this background, and his own experience as an athlete, Matthias co-founded Platypus in 2003. He has developed his own approach to MET and new methods for learning, practicing and teaching swimming. Through these unique techniques, he continues to assist his many clients in achieving their goals. They include improved athletic performance and rehabilitation from injuries and other chronic health conditions.

An avid swimmer and triathlete, Matthias is a recognized member of the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, CSEP, and the German Association of Health Sport, DVGS.
